Making something out of nothing: the first SHEBANG mask event

There were black markers and glue dots and cardboard mask forms, very simple, humble materials. And there were sheets of images depicting the weird and funny, sometimes threatening medieval animals, creatures born in belief, offering inspiration.

And then the makers came: to craft and play, to meet each other, to make art.

Just look at what they made!

This is the core of SHEBANG: why we seek, or avoid, community, why we dodge or bolster the that power, and why - when the end of the world is already in the rearview mirror - we still have a choice, every day, to keep it turning, together.

These masks will travel with me to the Pink Dog Creative SHEBANG launch early next year, to show what people can do when they choose to make something out of almost nothing at all.
